Mistress Of All Evil (Maleficent) : Jessica K Photography

"Mistress Of All Evil"

Model: Abigail Lester
Make-up: Rebeckah Wurzbacher
Assistants: Ash Dorman, Kyle Mccann

When I was younger and first watched the 1959 Disney version of "Sleeping Beauty", I am sure I was not the only one who had a fear of Maleficent. I had always had a love for the darker side of stories, they always seemed to have so much more strength and meaning behind them rather than the airy fairy happy version

In the recent 2014 version of the story "Maleficent," they turned the story around and showed her more positive side, as if all of her evil doings were for the good of princess Aurora the entire time, which, if you have seen both films you will notice the plot flaws...

Maleficent is the self-proclaimed, Mistress of all evil

Maleficent is hands down my favourite Disney villain for many reasons

-She's pure evil
-So evil that she doesn't just kill people in her path she makes them live in misery
-She is brilliant at holding grudges
-Her colour scheme and overall appearance is brilliantly designed

" A forest of thorns shall be his tomb! Borne through the skies on a fog of doom! Now go with the curse, and serve me well! 'Round Stefan's Castle, CAST MY SPELL!"

"Oh come now Prince Phillip. Why so melancholy? A wondrous future lies before you - you, the destined hero of a charming fairy tale come true. Behold - King Stefan's castle. And in yonder topmost tower, dreaming of her true love, the Princess Aurora. But see the gracious whim of fate - why, 'tis the self-same peasant maid, who won the heart of our noble prince but yesterday. She is indeed, most wondrous fair. Gold of sunshine in her hair, lips that shame the red red rose. In ageless sleep, she finds repose. The years roll by, but a hundred years to a steadfast heart, are but a day. And now, the gates of a dungeon part, and our prince is free to go his way. Off he rides, on his noble steed, a valiant figure, straight and tall! To wake his love, with love's first kiss. And prove that "true love" conquers all!"

I have spent the last 2 days feeling inspired, grateful, overwhelmed, happy, and overall passionate about my life and my craft.
(The hotel in Sydney)

I was in Sydney a few days ago shooting corporate head shots and fine art cityscapes for the same company, and I must thank Brett from Hi Flow for the amazing opportunity to travel with my photography. I had the time of my life and I am so grateful.

With 3 hours sleep and 2 hours in between landing in Brisbane and arriving at the venue I was shooting for TRYP Brisbane, which is a new hotel in Fortitude Valley which was an abandoned building I explored last year. Most of you keep hearing me talk about it, but for the people that haven't i'll give them a run down.
(Also, here are some images of the original building from 2013)

TRYP has kept the integrity of the building itself and made it into a street art hotel, giving 4 artists their own level. I was fortunate enough to be able to shoot the official launch party for the hotel. I met some wonderful people last night, they pretty much dragged all of the Brisbane artists off the street to be fed burgers and cocktails. Brilliant.
(Myself a little longer than a year ago swinging on the rooftop of the abandoned building that was to be TRYP. Back when I kept having to dye over my red hair because of the high school afraid of anyone being different)

(Here are some of the images I shot for TRYP at their Launch Party)

Occasionally I came across a conversation which involved that person telling me either there is no money in what I do or other negative comments on my appearance eg. Telling me I am an attractive woman but that I am ruining it with my tattoos.

The reality is, I am going down this path and no one can stop me, just because you didn't make it doesn't mean that it isn't possible. It's going to be difficult, and it's not always going to be travelling the world taking a few photos here and there, hard work and commitment will land you in places and among people that are worth the time and the effort.

(One of the RONE rooms in TRYP)

Also the comments on my appearance, most people love my red hair and tattoos but in the end, i'm not dying my hair or inking my body for anyone other than myself, so it really shouldn't be up for debate, but anyway back to the positive.

I'm so happy to be doing what I love, creating artworks, shooting events where I am meeting new people, working with companies and of course travelling with my photography. Thank-you for supporting me throughout my journey as an artist but also as a person, it's a long road ahead but with the spontaneous messages and comments of love and support, I believe we can create amazing work and I can't wait to share it with the world.

The Dryad: Jessica K Photography

"The Dryad"

Back to the basics, 2 friends; a model and a photographer heading out, with no fancy lighting, equipment or designer dresses just to shoot with an emotional inspiration.
Thank-you for a great day Jacque!

Model: Jacque Inabox

I have a fascination with spines, bones in general

Jacque mentioned that she had always felt trees were her happy place,

As she proceeded to climb higher into the leaves

I love images where humans are within nature, being supported by the earth and it's wonders

When directing models rather than giving them a pose, most times I give them an emotion, I was inspired by gloom that day

I hate battling midday sun, but it has it's moments such as this break in the tree leaves

Living within the trees on her own, but not alone

A wanderer within familiar grounds

Once Upon a Dream: Jessica K Photography

trigger warning: rape

We all know the story right? Sleeping Beauty falls asleep for a while on her 16th birthday yada yada.
Well I'm here to talk about the not so 'dreamy' theme that I underlies in most fairytales, but particularly Sleeping Beauty.

Rape Culture

Elements of rape culture have been ingrained into our society since the beginning.

A couple of pop culture examples:
Blurred Lines, I won't go into this into depth as I don't want this whole blog post to be about how much of a pathetic human Robin Thicke is, but "I know you want it" just isn't good enough.

The latest icloud hack targeting female celebrities, which resulted in an anonymous person on 4Chan releasing nude photos of these people in exchange for money. If that isn't bad enough, people are actually blaming these women because "they shouldn't have taken the photos in the first place." This isn't a scandal, it's sexual assault.

I could go on about this topic for hours, but I wont. My main message has to be clear and that is that it is never the victims fault. Sex is not the same as rape, and Silence is NOT consent.
